Telling the research stories…

Swansea University Library has recently undertaken a digitisation project to make 1000 items from the historic thesis collection of PhD and MPhil dissertations available online.

The electronic full-text items are now available via Cronfa, the Swansea University institutional repository, and the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global service. Our content joins the 2.3 million ProQuest open access dissertations provided by every major research library in the world.

The Singleton Park Library has in excess of 11,000 bound higher degree theses, which are only available on a restricted access basis to readers making a visit in person. The Cronfa E-Theses repository will provide universal access to much more of our vibrant research collection. This digitisation project supplements the principal online E-Theses collection.

As you may know ISS has been asked to administer a fund to pay article processing charges for RCUK funded research. We have put some information on our web site: http://www.swan.ac.uk/iss/libraries/research%20support/

The RCUK policy is to encourage open access publication. Institutions are supposed to make sure that a percentage of their RCUK funded research is open access – in the first year that is 45% rising to 75% in 5 years time. Their full policy can be found at  http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/documents/documents/RCUKOpenAccessPolicy.pdf.

You can choose either the green route (which means your paper will be available after an embargo) or the gold route where it is available to all straight away upon payment of an article processing charge. RCUK do favour the gold route. It would help the university to meet its target if you choose open access publication, although it is not compulsory – you obviously have to choose what you feel is best for your paper.

Each institution has been given a block grant to fund article processing charges. We now have an online form that will be used to gather requests for funding.  This link should take you directly to the form: https://collaborate.swan.ac.uk/staff/Lists/apcrequests/NewForm.aspx (login with the first part of your e-mail address before the @ and your usual university password).

You are welcome to get back to the APC Team using APC.Requests@swansea.ac.uk if you have any queries.

Fel y gwyddoch o bosib, gofynnwyd i GGS weinyddu cronfa i dalu costau prosesu erthyglau ar gyfer ymchwil a ariannir gan Gyngor Ymchwil y DU (RCUK). Rydym wedi rhoi rhywfaint o wybodaeth ar ein gwefan: http://www.swan.ac.uk/iss/libraries/research%20support/

Polisi RCUK yw annog cyhoeddiadau mynediad agored. Mae sefydliadau i fod i sicrhau bod canran o’u hymchwil a ariannir gan RCUK yn fynediad agored – 45% yn y flwyddyn gyntaf ac yn codi i 75% ymhen 5 mlynedd. Gellir dod o hyd i’w polisi yn http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/documents/documents/RCUKOpenAccessPolicy.pdf.

Gallwch ddewis naill ai’r llwybr gwyrdd (sy’n golygu y bydd eich papur ar gael ar ôl embargo) neu’r llwybr aur lle y bydd ar gael i bawb yn syth ar ôl talu ffi prosesu erthygl. Mae’n well gan RCUK y llwybr aur. Byddai dewis cyhoeddi mynediad agored yn helpu’r brifysgol i gwrdd â’i tharged er nad yw hyn yn orfodol – yn amlwg mae’n rhaid i chi ddewis yr hyn yr ydych yn ei gredu sydd orau ar gyfer eich papur.

Rhoddir grant bloc i bob sefydliad i ariannu ffioedd prosesu erthyglau. Mae ffurflen ar-lein gennym bellach a fydd yn cael ei defnyddio i gasglu ceisiadau am ariannu ynghyd. Dylai’r ddolen hon fynd â chi at y ffurflen yn uniongyrchol: https://collaborate.swan.ac.uk/staff/Lists/apcrequests/NewForm.aspx (mewngofnodwch gyda rhan gyntaf eich cyfeiriad e-bost cyn yr @ a’ch cyfrinair prifysgol arferol).

Mae croeso i chi gysylltu â’r Tîm APC drwy APC.Requests@swansea.ac.uk os oes unrhyw ymholiadau gennych.
